What Will You Get For Christmas?

The young woman was sitting in the church building. They were singing familiar Christmas carols right out of the songbook. The very first song caused her to review her life and then shut down in her mind. She became numb to what was going on around her.

How did God see her? What would be her eternal destiny? She felt more like a triumphant failure, weak and unstable, bitter and broken.

After coming out of a painful relationship, her finances were choking the life out of her. She knew that she was lost. What was God thinking about her?

That first Christmas song? “Oh, Come, All You Faithful!” She knew full well she hadn’t been faithful. “If that’s what God expects of me, then I’m eternally lost. There isn’t any hope for me!” she thought.

As the young woman returned home, the Holy Spirit revealed to her what God was thinking. Did He care that she had been unfaithful to Him? Is God aware how she is feeling about her wasted life? Yes! What gave her hope that day as revealed by the Holy Spirit were these words of Jesus.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened; and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Though she felt fearful, guilty, having nothing to offer God, she saw what God had done. The realization inspired Lisa Clow to pen a beautiful song entitled, “Oh, Come, All You Unfaithful!”

Jesus taught us that “it is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (Mark 2:17).

Jesus is loving and caring! God knows what it’s like to hurt. Jesus understands the pain of being abandoned. He would never forsake you, even if you feel that you deserve it. Because of your sins, you do deserve death, but God provided Jesus as the Lamb slain for our pardon! He is the offering!

God wants no one to go to the grave without first being healed by Him. Jesus wants you in heaven! He is merciful and forgiving.

The Scriptures assure the sinner that He cares about all souls, that “God our Savior… desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4) Is this where you are today? Will you realize God’s love for you and turn to Him? Trust and obey Him! It would make the greatest Christmas gift.
