Living Water Flowing

After a workout in the gym there is nothing like a refreshing drink of water. The highlight of jogging in the hot sun in downtown Tulsa is coming into our condo and taking a cool, refreshing shower. There is something special about the properties of water in how it refreshes both the outside and the inside. Taking in deep gulps of water from a refrigerated container hits the throat and takes away the dry, parched craving. Stepping under the shower head with hot, sweaty skin, allowing the cool water to flow over your body revives and rejuvenates.

John 4:10 - Jesus told the Samaritan woman, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water ." NKJV Jesus was communicating to the woman a source of life refreshing which would be a constant and continual provision. He ex plained that with this "living water" her thirst would be quenched, and she would never thirst again. In fact, Jesus went on to explain that this "living water" would be a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.

John 7:38 - Jesus said, "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water ." NKJV. Here Jesus describes how this "living water" can flow inside the believer's life. It is not stagnant. It is not a reservoir restricted to banks. This "living water" must flow. It is on the move. It touches every part of the heart and motivation of the individual's life. This water influences, it guides, it teaches, it corrects, it changes; all according to God's design.

John 7:39 - Scripture goes on to explain, "But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified." NKJV The "living water" is the Holy Spirit living inside the believer. This water refreshes the inside. It quenches the thirst for purpose and meaning. Deep gulps will take away the dry, parched craving for joy and fulfillment.

This water also refreshes the outside. It washes away every sin. It removes the irritation of insignificant influences that clog the pores of life. It cools, revives, and rejuvenates. The presence of the Holy Spirit is a life giving flow that provides a continual refreshing in the life of every believer.

May the Living Water flow from God's Spirit to refresh and rejuvenate you today.
