How’s Life Going For You?

Have you ever thought about living in “the good ‘ol days”? Most of us have fond memories of times past. Maybe you recall parents who are long deceased or perhaps a sibling who took you fishing for the first time.

You might think about that boy in math class who leaned over your shoulder to give you some help with a complicated problem. Now you’re married for fifty years and still in love. It’s pleasant memories that keep you going back to “the good ‘ol days.”

Time has a way of moving along too quickly. Children are born, you watch them grow, and then the day arrives when they say “goodbye.” Life is like that: a series of times, relationships, events which are here one day and gone the next. At least that’s how it seems. But the pleasant memories still flow through your mind and heart.

So, how’s life going for you now? Are you happy with where you are in life? Does the past fill your thoughts so that today no longer satisfies? Of course it’s impossible to live in the past. That can never satisfy you in the here and now.

Or do you live in the future? “Oh, what will my life be like next month or next year?” How long will your heartache continue as you live in the past? When will your life end? You ponder, “What will happen to my children?” “How will my husband get along without me?”

The apostle John gives us words of comfort, peace, and reassurance that life can be better than how we might view it today. He says, “Many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name“ ( John 20:30- 31).

Anyone who is continually longing for another time and place needs to consider the “signs” or miracles of Jesus. These prove that Jesus is who He said He is and that He has done all that is written about Him in the Bible. His words of love, hope, and comfort can give peace and assurance when you need it.

God the Father confirmed that we must accept all of what Jesus said, did, and promised: “While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, ‘This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!’” (Matthew 17:5). Are you listening to Jesus today?
