Have you seen movies or read stories about people who were hospitable? Have you known people who always find a way to give to others? My sister and her husband inspired me by their kindness and giving. Every time I visited, they tried to give me something to take with me, such as groceries, clothing, or even gasoline money. My sister said our mother lived her life giving to others. She said that before I was born and home was near the railroad tracks, Mother would feed every hobo who came to our door. I suppose these were examples which also inspired my older brother, Richard.

Richard is a gentleman. When we were in elementary school, our teachers taught us how to be little ladies and gentlemen along with scholastic curriculum. Those same teachers were also our Sunday School teachers, so we had plenty of indoctrination in social behavior. But hospitality seems to be a gift in my opinion, and Richard seems to have that gift. For instance, when he learned of a fellow living in a trailer who needed a little help, Richard took him soup every day. Then the COVID pandemic struck. Neighbors on each side of them had COVID. He continued taking the man food, until the day Richard and his wife became ill with the virus.

Discussion: How can we practice hospitality? How can we make a person feel welcome in our own home or somewhere else? Besides giving things, how can we be hospitable?
