Being friends

Sandy was going to a new school. It was her first day at the school and she was excited. She hoped to make new friends. As she rode to school with her mother, she confessed to being nervous. “What if no one lets me play with them?” she said. Her mother replied, “Just be yourself. If you want a friend, you need to be a friend.”

In the classroom, she was introduced. Sandy smiled and chose a seat next to another girl who had smiled at her. At recess, they went outside to play. Sandy was having fun with her new friend when she noticed a little boy sitting alone on the step with his head down. Sandy went to him and asked, “Is something wrong?” The boy looked up but did not answer. Sandy tried again, “I’m Sandy. Is anything wrong?” The boy said, “No one plays with me.” Sandy asked his name, introduced him to her new friend, and invited him to play. Soon they were having such a good time, that a few other students wanted to play with them.

At the end of the day, Sandy thought about what a good day she had. She felt good that she had made friends, but she felt especially good knowing that she had helped someone else feel better.
