This is a follow up to the story that ran in the Aug. 14 2025 issue of the Bristow News, regarding a Bristow resident, Patricia Matthews, who had been reported missing.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed that 71-year-old Patricia 'Patty' Matthews was found dead in a rural area of Okmulgee County.
Matthew's, who had dementia, car was discovered abandoned in Okmulgee county.
A search of the area around the car was performed at that time and a Silver Alert was issued while search crews conducted an extensive search, but the search officially ended Aug. 16 after ground teams, K9 units, drones, and boat operations contributed more than 1,400 manhours in total with no sign of Matthews. Matthew's body was discovered approximately a mile from her car.
The cause of Matthews death has not been released, and the OSBI will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Matthews passing.
