By now you have seen the activity along Main Street as volunteers decorate for the Christmas holiday season. The preparations are part of the Midpoint Corridor Route 66 Association's vision for this years' Holiday Light Initiative. Eleven cities and towns - Sapulpa, Bristow, Depew, Kellyville, Stroud, Davenport, Chandler, Wellston, Luther, Arcadia and Edmond will all work together for the next five years promoting tourism along this stretch of The Mother Road.
Each of the eleven communities along this 82-mile stretch has its own holiday theme. Local business owner Kristin Weaver is the Chairperson for Bristow, Kellyville and Depew. She is excited to help organize preparations for Bristow's Cowboy Christmas.
The midpoint corridor project will not only transform the landscape of the region, but will also strengthen partnerships and alliances among communities. Ed Gochenour, owner of The Chicken Shack in Luther, is the driving force behind the Midpoint Corridor for Route 66. He says that funding this project is private for now, as government grant programs don't become available until 2024. He sees this Christmas event as a way to generate momentum for the upcoming 100-year Route 66 Centennial in 2026.
Our 30- foot live Christmas tree will be lit on Thanksgiving night at 5:50pm,officially kicking off our holiday season. December 7th is the Christmas parade along Main Street, with shopping, vendors, and activities.
