On Friday, October 27th at noon, the City of Bristow will hold an official dedication ceremony for our city lake, Lake Messina, in honor of George Horany.
George Horany, born on October 27, 1910, was one of eleven children to Lebanese immigrants Oscar and Helen Horany. He served as the Bristow Parks Commissioner for many years, and his deep affection for the lake was wellknown. In a poignant gesture, when he passed away in 1987, his hearse took 'one more drive' around the lake before his burial at the city cemetery.
In 1986, the Bristow City Council unanimously voted to rename the lake to Lake George Horany. On what would have been what would have been George's 113th birthday, please join us as we officially commemorate this renaming in his honor.
