April 6, voters will have the opportunity to vote on an increase of one half of one percent (½%) in Bristow's city sales tax. The funds from the increased sales tax will be used to build a new hospital and to improve our area parks, and mainly the swimming pool. Every resident knows that the pool is very important to the community and kids growing up in Bristow. Future plans would include replacing the old pool and building a water park.
The last day to register to vote is March 12, 2021. The deadline to request and absentee ballot is 5 p.m March 30 2021. Early voting is Thursday, April 1, 2021, fom 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, April 2, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Everyone knows the town needs its hospital. Too many residents count on the care they can get at our current medical center, even though it is an old facility. The question is, “Are the voters willing to vote in favor of another sales tax increase in order to move the city forward.”
Following is a letter from Bristow City Mayor Rick Pinson to the residents of Bristow.
Dear Friends,
I would like to take a few minutes to speak to you about our quality of life and ask you to consider the latest proposals that will improve our life here in Bristow.
In the past few years we have had our share of ups and downs. COVID has had a major impact, but Bristow has had our share of positives: we have a brand new airport in progress and near completion which is going to bring more industry to our community, our Fourth of July celebration is getting bigger and better every year, and we have had numerous festivals and music shows that are improving our quality of life here.
I come to you with two areas that I must get your help with. The first is a new hospital. As many of you know we have been working towards this goal for many years and it is now within our grasp. We must reach out and take hold of this to make our community a better and safer place. If we can receive outstanding medical care here in Bristow, that would surely impact our quality of life. For half a penny of sales tax we can achieve the new hospital that we desperately need.
The second deals with our children and families. We have one of the largest public pools around. This pool has served countless citizens and provided entertainment for Bristow residents for years, but it is in need of major repairs, We must save this Bristow treasure!
With this half cent tax we can also improve and add to our existing parks. So for just a half a penny sales tax we can insure that our kids and our residents have great recreational opportunities.
Thank you for your time and for voting to improve our great City of Bristow.
Respectfully, Mayor,
Rick Pinson
