The Creek County Sheriff 's Office is warning citizens of a scam going around. The number of calls the department has received is alarming. The office has received numerous calls from citizens who are receiving calls from a telephone number that shows up as Creek County Sheriffs Office. The caller then tells you they are a deputy or an officer with Creek County Sheriff and they have a warrant for your arrest, for some imaginary offense. Generally, the caller then follows up with a request for payment, most of the time the request is upwards of $1,000. This payment is asked to be made by PayPal, gift card, bitcoin ,etc. According to the sheriff 's department, some people have paid the money and it is money they will never get back and then there are others who simply hang up the phone and do nothing , then there are others who report the call to the sheriff's department.
The sheriff's department says they have no way of knowing how many citizens have received these calls as they can only track the ones that are reported to them but this is a widespread issue. The CCSO says to keep in mind that they will never call someone to tell them they have a warrant and will never threaten arrest and certainly will never ask for money over the phone. The scammers placing these calls are not representatives of the Creek County Sheriff's Department and are not affiliated with the department in any way. These scammers are breaking the law by impersonating and officer.
