Bristow City Council met in chambers Tuesday evening, Jan. 21, due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday which was honored on Monday. After invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, the council appprove the January 6 meeting minutes and moved on to approve the conent agenda. The mayor ask for a vote to adjourn the city meeting and move on to the hospital authority agenda. The council approved. A presentation on was going on at the hospital was given to the board members. Acording to the report, the CAH Status had been denied and that the hospital was appealing that deision and aimed to apply for a small community hospital status. As of January, the facility now houses a new x-ray machine and it was also reported that a total of 378 patients were seen for various resons at the hospital in the month of December. The hospital authority meeting was adjourned and the council again opened the city side of the meeting.
The board had a lengthy discussion on the agenda item regarding an ordiance amending the Finance and Taxation Article 5 of the Bristow Code of Ordiances on raising the Lodging Tax. This item was tabled from a prior council meeting. The board did not unanimously approve this agenda item. All members present voted yes except for one, Councilman Church voted no.
The council members then discussed a resolution calling for a special election in the City of Bristow for the registered voters to vote on a levy and assessment of an excise tax of 10% on proceed derived from hotel and lodging. All members voted yes except Councilman Church, who voted no. Agenda items 11, 12 and 13 were tabled again.
A public meeting was opened to discuss the Wildflower Meadow addition phase 2. The pubi meeting wa then closed.
The council then went into a n executive session to discuss the hiring of two police officers. One Vincent Martinez and David Wright. Each ofier is on a year probation period.
