Yearly, usually the second weekend of May, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) holds its annual food drive to help benefit local families. The drive will be held Saturday, May 10. All proceeds from the drive remain local and will go to Bristow Social Servces. This spells help for a lot of hungry people.
The National Association of Letter Carriers is an American labor union, representing non-rural letter carriers employed by the United States Postal Service. It was founded in 1889.
The NALC has 2,500 local branches representing letter carriers in all 50 states, inclding the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.
Since launching in 1993, the NALC’s annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.
NALC is asking for the community's help in making this happen. Have you gotten a plastic bag in your mail box? Fill the bag with canned or non-pershable food items and place the bag on or near your mailbox by 8:30 a.m. the morning of May 10. The letter carriers will do the rest. There will also be a place at the post office where you can drop off items. With the community's help, the letter carriers are hoping to make this the biggest and best food drive yet. If you need more information on the drive, you can contact your local post office at (918) 367-3440
