With the promise of cooler weather, delicious foods, and festive gatherings, autumn also ushers in fairs, and next week, the Fall Free Fair opens at the Creek County Fairgrounds in Kellyville.
The agricultural fair aspects involving crops, livestock, and handmade goods are designed to be educational and competitive in nature, improving farm life and production for everyone. To keep the Creek County Fall Free Fair educational and share learning opportunities for improvement, the fair board notes that “No admission charges will be made where exhibits are present.” Agricultural aspects of the Fall Free Fair involve livestock shows, horticultural exhibits, 4H exhibits including displays of photographic, artistic, and educational works, farm technologies, and exhibits of handmade crafts and goods. Some of those 4-H educational exhibits include science and technological applications such as engineering and robotics, food safety and preparation, personal development, interior design, and use of textiles. The fair is about more than exhibits, though. It also presents competitions, shows, tasty fair food, and carnival rides.
For fun, a variety of competitions will be held at the fair: a donut eating contest, children’s dummy roping contest, children’s coloring contest, and a boiled egg eating contest. Moreover, fair attendees can choose to take in the car show on Saturday or one of 3 nights of rodeo action from Thursday thru Saturday with the Clay Rodeo Company’s open rodeos at 7 p.m. on September 19 and 20, and the Creek County Fair Jr. Ranch Rodeo on September 21, at 6 p.m.
The Clay Rodeo Company’s open rodeos will feature a variety of talent and events as well. Some of those events include bareback and ranch bronc riding, ladies barrel racing, bull riding, tiedown calf roping, pee wee barrel racing, junior barrel racing, breakaway roping, ladies breakaway roping, and team roping. Additionally, Cheridyn Bateman, a 17-yearold, will perform trick and fancy riding during the Thursday and Friday rodeos.
As for those irresistible carnival rides, Great Plains Amusement will erect a ferris wheel, tilt-a-whirl, spider, merry-go-round, bumper cars, zipper, train for kids, sizzler, and more to the delight of ticket holders. Rides and carnival attractions will be available from Thursday to Sunday within specific hours. Wristbands for rides will also be available for purchase on site.
Be sure to visit the Creek County Fairgrounds next week from September 19-22 for the Fall Free Fair. View the exhibits, grab some delicious food, enter some competitions, take in some great shows, and feel the thrill of a spinning carnival ride.
