Last week, Bristow High School broke ground on their 2024 bond issue, primarily meant to build two buildings for the high school, as well as a storm shelter for Collins. It is however, worth noting that many other smaller things were handled with the money, like covering walkways at Edison, and putting an H-VAC system into their gymnasium. These projects are projected to be completed by the last week or July, first week of August. This however is somewhat dependent on weather, a wet spring could delay this, meaning athletes would not move in until after the school year has begun. Building Number one, is a brand new cheer facility. Equipped with brand new mats, lockers, and pretty much everything else you could think of. This building is special because BVC has worked extremely hard to earn something like this. Previously, cheerleaders had to share their space in the community high school gym, making practice inconsistent and ever changing. With the cheer team placing in the top five at state for the last five years, twice runner-up, it is safe to say they are only limited by size and not skill. Because of this, Bristow is excited to reward BVC as well as their head coach, Quila Cole, with a dedicated space and everything they need to succeed.
The second building is for the Agriculture, or simply just “Ag”, students. Currently they occupy an older building near the end of campus. With the new plans though, by next year they will be moving into a building behind the one they currently use. It is an estimated 15,000 sq ft, with 6,800 of that dedicated to a brand new shop. The shop, again, will have all new materials, taking nothing from the old building. Including everything Bristow needs to begin offering a woodshop elective, which is hopeful to be approved by the school board at some point in the next few years. It also has a multi purpose room which will be the new testing room for yearly ACT and state testing, and is connected to the middle school, so that we will no longer have to deal with moving things in and out of the high school gym. This room also doubles as a storm shelter, and Collins is being equipped with one as well, meaning that every site in the district will have a designated safe room. The old building will be repurposed into a STEM and aviation center for Mrs.Wilson and her flight students. They work with drones and simulators regularly, so the extra space will be nice.
