Red, white, and blue will soon line Main Street as the Bristow Historical Society kicks off its 2026 Local Hero Military Banners program. Each banner honors a local veteran with their photo, years of service, and any medals earned while serving the nation.
The Historical Society manages the entire process— designing, printing, installing, and removing the banners each year. Proceeds from the program directly support the Bristow museum at the Train Depot, helping fund maintenance and ongoing museum projects.
Residents are invited to participate by completing an application and returning it to the Depot. Applications may be requested by emailing contactus@ bristowhistory. org. The annual cost is $150, and if a banner becomes worn or needs replacement, it will be replaced at no additional cost to the purchaser.
Organizers hope to see Main Street fully lined with banners as summer tourists begin arriving. Community members with questions or those wishing to honor a military hero can visit the Depot, send an email, or call (918) 367-9335.
