Dedicated coach honored for years of leadership and guidance

Luke Fortney is coaching his final season after more than 15 years of service to countless young athletes. On the field this past Saturday, he was commemorated with memories ranging from nicknames he gave, to the phrases he was known for, along with heartfelt words from former athletes he guided.

Starting with a father’s love for his son and the game, he went on to lead many other sons from the community. Brothers Trey, Caleb, Lukas, and Gauge all benefited from their time with Coach Fortney. Shaping a family through his dedicated coaching on and off the field, leading them into the next seasons of their lives.

Twins Stephon and Kaylon also spent years under his guidance, with Stephon continuing his career into college-level football in Nebraska. “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without him being a leader, a second dad, a determined man to set kids on the right path but also show ’em love, character, responsibility, and respect,” said former student and athlete Kaylon who was on his way to see his brother play in Nebraska.

What a weekend to show that dedication is important, as all teams Bristow Highschool and the Youth Football beat their opponents, the Cushing Tigers. The highschool took victory at 35-31, and the Youth swept the field. A testament to the years of service giving to our school and community by one man that made it a choice to show up and shepherd many young hearts full of future dreams.
