On Friday night the Kellyville Ponies celebrated 50 years of football. Some of the old players were honored at the game. Speaking with two of the elder players, the sense of pride is still there even though it has been 50 years. Lisa Burgas Leathers was at the game representing her brother, Donald Burgas, Jr. who had passed away. In honor of her brother, Leathers was wearing her brother's jersey. Also attending was Darrell Means who was best friends with Burgas as they played football together all through their school years. It was certainly a bitter sweet moment for Means and Leathers to meet and talk of the olden days of football. Means said, What I remember most about playing football, is that we were more family as we grew up together, we protected each other. I remember the last game we played. It was in 1980 against Drumright. We, the Kellyville Ponies, won 42-0. What a game that was”
