Robert Lee Procter

Robert Lee Procter was born on Oct. 1, 1940 to Vernon H. and Leola (Guess) Proctor in Slick, He departed this life on Nov. 21, 2023, at the age of 83 years. He attended Rosenwald and Lincoln High Schools (Bristow) and graduated from Bristow High School in 1958. He later actively served his country in the military division of the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1965. Upon his return home from duty, he endeavored in his traveling cooking career throughout the southern region of the United States to later settle in Oklahoma and eventually come home to Bristow, Oklahoma.

Robert “Slim” Procter worked at the Bristow Kwikset manufacturing site and was a traveling cook for several years to later own and operate “Mr. Rib” Barbeque. His reputation as one of the outstanding , wellknown chefs in the area stands second to none.

He had many things of life that brought him joy such as watching football, basketball, softball, and especially his passion for cooking. He loved spending time with family and friends. Many years of his life was spent serving and entertaining a host of friends from every walk of life with his wit and humor. His radiant personality and joking demeanor were welcoming and an uplift to everyone especially when he served his signature, comforting soul food. No one was ever a stranger to “Proc” at the Mr. Rib barbeque pit where there was always an open invite for everyone to enjoy a mouth-watering sample and have a laugh.

He will be greatly missed. Robert dearly loved and cherished his family. His legacy and memory are crowning stars of blessing to all who travel life’s highway with him. He made the journey brighter with his presence and magnetic charm. He was a gentleman amongst men in his own unique way.

Robert Lee Procter was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by six children, Paulina Adams, Sharon Proctor, Lisa Martin,Snovia Proctor, Sophia Washington, and Shamara Washington; numerous beloved grandchildren; four siblings, Leon Proctor, Vera Burden, Sam Proctor and Kenneth Roebuck Other survivors treasuring his memory include a host of nephews, nieces, extended relatives and many friends who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Vernon H. Proctor Jr., Lester Proctor, and Eugene Roebuck and one sister Mary Alice Proctor.

A private graveside family celebration honoring Robert Procter’s life was held on Dec. 2, 2023 at 12 noon at Magnolia Cemetery (Bristow). The family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation and gratitude to all for the prayers, the comforting words of condolence and the many acts of kindness expressed.
