Portia Marie (Canady) Parker

September 6, 1948 - November 12, 2021

Portia Marie Canady was born Sept. 6, 1948 in Depew. She died in Stillwater Hospital on Nov. 12, 2021. She was the eldest daughter of Ben W. Canady and Odella Mae Canady.

Portia graduated from Depew High School in 1966 and continued her education at Langston University graduating with a degree in education. Her apprentice teaching was started in Depew Elementary School and then her first teaching assignment was in Slick.

It was at Langston that she met and later married the love of her life, Jasper Travis Parker, on July 13, 1974. She followed her husband’s career as soil conservationist all over the state of Oklahoma. She held teaching positions in OKC, Ada, Chickasha, Woodward, Wewoka, and Konawa. She retired from teaching in 1999.

To this union two children were born, Travis Ryan and Felicia Nicole. They were active parents in their children’s education and after school activities. Both also attended Langston University and were active band and choir members. Portia was inducted as an honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Society.

Portia leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 47 years, Jasper Travis (JT), son Travis Ryan (Katashia), of Midlothian, TX, and her two grandchildren, Victoria and Ryan, her daughter, Felicia Nicole Parker, of OKC, five brothers, Norman McLeod (Deborah), Benjamin Canady (Mary), Christopher Canady (Debra), Jeff Canady (Janet), and George Canady, three sisters Margie Raglin (Greg), Tammy Lewis (Sidney), and April Canady along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends who loved her.

Funeral services were held in Boley at the Amos Temple Church with interment at the East Lawn Cemetery, Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021.
