Gregory Don Cecil, 1957 - 2021

Gregory Don Cecil, a Bristow native, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on May 15, 2021, following a long illness. Gregg, 64, attended Bristow schools and The University of Oklahoma. He was well known for his musical talent and served as Drum Major of the Bristow Pirate Band while in high school.

After attending OU, Gregg worked with his uncle, Raymond Cecil, at the Red Bird Boot and Shoe Repair Shop in downtown Bristow, the largest boot and western wear store in Northeast Oklahoma at the time. In his later years, Gregg worked in various sales positions including his final position at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Gregg always had a positive attitude and a smile for everyone. He was pleasant and kind, and he was a very loyal friend. He loved all types of music, and he enjoyed antiquing. Gregg was also a lifelong fan of the Oklahoma Sooners.

Gregg is survived by his brother, Allan V. Cecil (Tricia), of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; and his nieces Jill Cecil Snyder (Brent), of Hartsville, South Carolina; Sarah Cecil Gray ( Jason), of Charlotte, NC; and Molly Cecil Peterson (Steve), of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by his cousins Rayma Lea Montgomery (Glenn), of Bristow; Debby Jorgenson (Ken), of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; and Sylvia Jean Fletcher (Woody).

He was preceded in death by his father, Laymond Bud Cecil, who was part owner of the Red Bird store at one time and his mother, Mary Eleanor Vaughn Cecil, a talented vocalist and member of the BPW Trio that performed throughout Northeast Oklahoma. He was also preceded in death by his cousin, Norman Spearman ( Judy), of Wilburton, Oklahoma.

There will be a private burial for Gregg in the Cecil family plot at Bristow City Cemetery. Memorials in Gregg’s name may be made to Omega House Hospice, 602 Branard Street, Houston, Texas 77006.
