Eliza Harjo Berryhill was born to Melissa Canard and Edmond Harjo on Aug. 10, 1931 in Wewoka. She married Raymond Berryhill in Okemah, and had 11 children. Eliza passed from this earth to be with our heavenly Father on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at her home in Bristow.
Eliza enjoyed fishing, beading, crocheting, spending time with family, attending church, and speaking the Muscogee language, her first language. She was a proud citizen of the Muscogee Nation and her Seminole ancestry as well. Eliza worked for many years as a care giver before retiring and living her last years in Bristow.
Eliza is preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Berryhill; children: Leonard Berryhill, Rosie Tyler, Lyle (Bruce) Berryhill, Raymond Berryhill, Jr.; grandchildren: William (Bo) Berryhill, Summer Berryhill, Lindell Berryhill, Jr.; one great grandchild; two sisters and one brother; and companion Lloyd Roper.
Eliza leaves behind several children: Carol Pendergrass and husband Jackie, of Beggs, Lindell Berryhill, of Bristow, Janice Bryan and husband Tom, of Bristow, Freda McGinley, of Stillwater, Tommy Berryhill, of Terra Haute, Indiana, Donald Berryhill and wife Rae, of Broken Arrow, Dianne Waldon and wife Belinda, of Beggs, 33 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held for Eliza Berryhill at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, at the Hutchins-Maples Matherly Funeral Home, in Bristow, masks required. Eliza has chosen to be cremated and will be interred at a later date.
