On Christmas Eve December 24th at 7:00 p.m. there will be a Christmas Eve Candlelighting Service for the Bristow area. It will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Bristow located at 7th Street and Chestnut. As the angels sang on the night of Christ’s birth, so there will be special music, “Mary Did You Know?” a solo by Carmen Bruner. There will be some Christmas Carols sung by everyone. There will be piano and organ by Virginia Freeland. There will be the lighting of the Advent Candles with the children helping. Then there will be a Children’s Message by Debbie Blancett. As the Wise Men brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the baby Jesus, so there will be a special offering of love for Jesus led by Excell LaFayette. There will be a Christmas Eve Message by Rev. Chuck Horton, “O Holy Night.”Then there will be Christmas Eve Communion open to everyone. The service will conclude with everyone forming a circle around the sanctuary, and the lights will be turned down. Then we will all have a candle and pass the light of Christmas from person to person around the circle as we all sing together the beloved song “Silent Night, Holy Night.” After the service is over the children will be given bags of Christmas cookies with a special little book about the birth of the baby Jesus. All the community is invited to come and take part. People of all religions, ages, ethnic groups, are welcome. Bring your family and join in this special service. Out-of-town guests are welcome, too.
