He had a good-paying job, a decent home, a cool truck, and all his physical needs well met. What’s better than this?
Having everything that this life offers can still make you unhappy and empty. What’s better?
Rich and famous celebrities often turn to God as they age. They’ve realized that money and attention cannot satisfy. They now pursue Jesus.
What about you? What’s better than the life you have today? A new, bigger, and better home? Getting rid of your ten-year-old junker? A new car aroma is nice, but a new car payment and higher insurance aren’t! Where will you keep your new wheels? Your garage is filled with “important junk.” What is better than this? Jesus says, “Do not store treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy… thieves break in and steal. But store up…treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6:19-20).
Paul wrote, “I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am” (Philippians 4:11). Though his life was sometimes without material blessings, and he may have been forced to sleep on filthy ships or rest on a stranger’s haystack for a night or two, not to mention having to sleep in cold, dark, damp, smelly prison cells several times, his mind stayed on focus. What’s better than this?
Even though he faced false accusers, liars who misrepresented his words, and harsh beatings (2 Corinthians 11:23-25), he remained faithful to the Lord! How did he do it?
He knew that there was something far more valuable than a plush recliner or the best-selling luxury car from Europe. Sure, Paul wouldn’t have those luxuries when, in his day, owning more than one set of clothes was a luxury. “Not that I speak from need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am” (Philippians 4:11). The Apostle had a mission to speak truth about the God of heaven, the Creator God.
Despite all his intense suffering, his many sorrows, and pain beyond words, Paul counted these things as mere inconveniences and battled on against the devil’s influences in people’s lives (2 Corinthians 11:23-29).
Satan is the one who is out to ruin your life! “Be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. So resist him, firm in your faith”(1 Peter 5:8-9).
When Andy Byron, CEO of the tech company, Astronomer, brought his girlfriend to a concert, he left his two teen sons at home with his wife! When caught,he was shamed. He knew it was wrong to cheat! His family was betrayed. This is what Satan does in our world of sin. He destroys people! God doesn’t approve of your sins!
