May 19, 1973 - September 3, 2025
Jason Earl Varnell (Strutty) was born May 19, 1973, in Duncan, and left this world on Sept. 3, 2025, at the young age of 52, far too soon for a man with such a big laugh, stubborn streak, and love for a good day’s work.
He graduated from Depew High School in 1991, and on Feb.5,1994,he married Nacole Parrick. Together they raised two daughters, Raven and Christian, who inherited his grit, sense of humor, and ability to push through life’s challenges with determination and maybe a little hard-headedness.
Jason was the kind of man who could fix just about anything with a welding rig, wrangle a horse, and catch a catfish with his bare hands because rods and reels were just too easy. In his younger years, he even tried his luck riding bulls, proving he wasn’t afraid of much except maybe sitting still. He was always willing to lend a hand to a friend though he might tease you the whole time he was doing it, and he truly never met a stranger. Jason had more friends than could ever be counted, because once you met him, you couldn’t help but be pulled in by his laugh, his stories, and his orneriness and turn into a lifelong friend.
He loved his family fiercely and had a special way of showing it, whether that meant teaching lessons the hard way, cheering on his grandkids, or sneaking them extra sweets when Mom wasn’t looking. His grandchildren, Lilly Mae, Lynly Marie, Kalli Nacole, and July Theodore, were the light of his later years, and he wore the title “Pa” proudly.
Jason leaves behind his daughters, Raven and Christian (with husband Sonny); his mother, Marilyn; his siblings, Sheila (Jeff), Kathy (Danny), Jerry (Brandi), and David; and a whole crew of nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hear his laugh echo in their hearts. He’s now reunited with his dad, Frederick; stepdad, LeRoy; and grandparents Bob, Jane, and Martha, no doubt telling tall tales and cracking jokes.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at Gypsy Holiness Church with Pastor Mike Maxon officiating. We’ll share stories, shed tears, and most importantly, laugh because Strutty wouldn’t have it any other way. Services are under the direction of Hutchins Maples Matherly Funeral Home.
