“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Philippians4: 8). What’s on your mind today?
People who fret about the past, but can't change it, often develop ulcers, heart conditions, and, sadly, may even drink themselves to death.
Do you stay awake at night, concerned about your marriage, job, children, and health? What IS on your mind during your waking hours, and when you should be sleeping?
Someone has wisely said, “The bed is for relaxing, sleeping, and not for stressing!” Another wise man said, “If you've done nothing wrong and your heart is right with God, when it’s time to sleep, you can rest comfortably.”
Another wise man wrote, “Lord my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me. Lord, You have brought up my soul from Sheol; You have kept me alive, that I would not go down to the pit…His favor is for a lifetime; weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning” (Psalm30:2-3, 5). If you’re losing sleep due to excessive worry, how does your next day go for you? Tired? Irritable?
Some folks worry about their future. Jesus says, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you. So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:33-34).
Much of what people worry about rarely comes against them. Why worry about something that you don't even know might actually happen? Uncertainties!? Hospitals are filled with people who struggle to cope with life.
Try memorizing the following Bible verse: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians4:6-7). Isn’t that the refreshing change you need—and want?
“…the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” ( James 1:3-4).
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4).
