They changed lives during thirty-eight years as traveling missionaries, and their active years took them to many different places.
They traveled by bus to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. They boarded a train on the Mexican side (a seventeen-hour night trip), arriving in Mexico City early the next day. They stayed with a Christian family.
The couple worked hard to strengthen churches and share the Good News about the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, always staying in the homes of church members.
They were invited to Show Low, Arizona; Pueblo, Colorado; Choctaw, Oklahoma; and Phoenix, Arizona; and worked with the Kittery, Maine church, one summer. Church members opened their homes, and shared meals, showing continued hospitality (Hebrews 13:2).
Traveling to the Czech Republic, they worked with the teens and taught English classes each day. Using the Gospel of John as the class text, the Czech students, many of whom had lived under Communist oppression, sought greater freedom in Jesus! The couple lived on the sixth floor of an apartment complex in Brno.
When students suggested a special location to visit, the couple asked them to go along. Students further bonded in the love of Jesus. They were shown Jesus’ love.
Czech students often asked the missionaries, “Where have you been all these years?” Two months later, the couple returned home. Going home to America, the couple passed through London. Local church members housed, fed, and showed them abundant hospitality. The Wembley church became more special. The missionary taught Bible class and preached that Sunday.
Returning to Brno, Czech Republic, two years after their first mission there, they stayed in a missionary’s home. They worked the summer, spending many hours with the teens, and their parents. The full-time missionaries left the couple to work alone. A teen girl in the youth group translated the Sunday Bible class and sermon, as the missionary spoke. The podium which he had to use still had the outline of the communist star! Friends in Vienna, Austria invited the man to preach one Sunday. The Austrian minister translated while the missionary spoke in English.
While in Singapore, the church leadership housed them in the top floor apartment. Again, the man preached when invited.
When you are in the Lord’s church, you will never lack family. Jesus’ disciples were told by Him, they would never be lonely. Please read His words recorded in Mark 10:2931: “I tell you the truth, all those who have left houses, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children, or farms for me and for the Good News will get more than they left. Here in this world, they will have a hundred times more homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields…” God wants you in His family. How lonely are you?
