Is insight on celebrities' lives earned? As of late, the topic of celebrity privacy is increasingly popular. With the rise of Chappel Roan, the burglary of Joe Burrow’s mansion, and the resurfacing of Doja Cat’s comments about her own fans, we have a lot to cover.
Recently there has been a string of robberies involving NFL players and their houses, the most recent being that of Joe Burrow. Unbeknownst to the public, he and his longtime girlfriend had just broken up, and he had begun seeing a model. None of this information was free for the public to know, until that model reported the robbery at his house. He went on to say that he felt his privacy had been breached, because he was not ready for this to be public.
Chappel Roan, up and coming pop artist, has spoken publicly about the need for privacy and how she expects that to be respected by her fans and paparazzi alike. This whole thing caused some uproar from a split crowd. She was quite blunt with her statements and behavior, which may not have come off well even if her point rings true. Many people began comparing this situation to one involving rapper, Doja Cat. What was actually said is unclear, and she has clarified multiple times what she really meant by her comments. The general consensus, or at least what spread like wildfire online, was that she was ungrateful for her fans, and did not care to appeal to them, or share anything with them.
All of this begs the question, when you put yourself into the limelight, does your right to privacy disappear, in order to please your fans? When you phrase it like that it seems like quite a clear answer, but give it a deeper look. It is their choice, and is not an easy one. It is hard to be successful, to become famous, there is plenty of time to back out or consider your own place in all of it. If they valued their privacy that much would they be celebrities? Just because they chose to be famous though, does not deny the fact that they are people just like the rest of us, and people become desensitized to that line of thinking because celebrities are from such a different realm. The whole thing is quite paradoxical, one cannot be true while the other is, and yet they both are. Long story short, it is something to think about next time you are searching for the juicy details on a celebrity’s latest issues.
