Free Eye Exams & Glasses
In celebration of Giving Sight Day, on Saturday, September 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dr. Zeddie Cantrell’s Vision Source will be conducting free eye exams and offering free glasses for those without insurance. Appointments must be set in advance. Call 918-367-2020 to set up appointments.
Who Lost a Chicken?
When Bristow Social Services staff arrived Tuesday morning, they were greeted by a visiting chicken. The chicken did not seem to mind the human intrusion. Staff published a unique inquiry on social media good for a few chuckles. For all who may miss the “Where’s the beef ?” commercials of decades past, what a joy to be greeted by “Who’s missing a chicken?”!
Fish Fry
Bristow Christian Academy held its first fish fry fundraiser the evening of Monday, September 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The menu consisted of fish, hushpuppies, coleslaw, fries, fried okra, and dessert. Prices included $20 for an all-you-can-eat plate, $15 for a single trip, and $10 for a child’s plate. To go orders were also available, and a silent auction was held.
VFW Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy
The 2024-2025 iterations of the Patriot’s Pen contest for middle school students and Voice of Democracy contest for high school students has opened. Interested students may download applications from the VFW Youth Scholarship website: https://www.vfw.org/community/youth-and-education/youthscholarships.
This year’s contest themes are “My Voice in America's Democracy?' for Patriot’s Pen and 'Is America Today Our Forefathers' Vision?' for Voices of Democracy. Contest winners receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $35,000.
