The invocation and Pledge of Allegiance started the Bristow City Council Meeting off on Tuesday evening. After the August 19 council meeting minutes were approved by the members, Judge Laura Farris swore in three new police officers to the Bristow Police Department, Officer Tyler Stroup, Officer Lucas Adcock and Officer Kyle Benson. Family members of each of the officers pinned the police badge on each officer.
A short update as to what is happening at the chamber was given by Jeryn Fletcher and the airport manager gave the board an update on what was happening at the airport.
After all items, except one, on the consent agenda were approved by the council, the board discussed and reviewed an action previewing an Ordinance allowing burning inside the city limits. Discussion was that a permit would be required for any type of burning and the permit would be good for a limited amount of time.The fire chief would have to approve the burn and can revoke the permit at anytime. Open burns must be attended at all times. Of course there would be stipulations on what is allowed to be burned. The recommendation of the cost of the permit was $20 with the mayor having authority to waive that fee.
Also discussed was action on a Memorial Item Ordinance. Mayor Wyatt mentioned that she had spoken with the US Department of Forestry where a tree could be purchased and planted according to location and season, the possibility of purchasing a bench for $700 or a memorial brick for $250.
The board discussed action on an animal control ordinance where if any unaltered dog is running lose, the owner would have to pay to have the unaltered dog returned. The fee for return of the dog would be as much as it would cost to have the dog neutered. Other than the licensing and shots fee, a second fee would be imposed for the dog not being altered.
Possible action and costs for placing GPS systems in the public works vehicles was discussed by the board. Mayor Wyatt told the board she had things lined up to have the GPSs installed in five of the 13 vehicles this next week and if he board did not approve it, then she needed to know. This would only be for a trial run and all the employees would know that the systems had been installed.
Other items on the agenda included entering into an agreement with Ralph Osborn CPA to perform an audit for the 20232024 fiscal year; obtaining an appraisal for the possible purchase of land located at 519 West 12th; discussion on possible action for economic development on the north side of the Turnpike and the board approved the motion to get a right-of-way agreement with Dobson for use of the city's right-of way for purposes of telecommunitcations.
The board approved the abatement of property located at 412 W. 7th for weeds, grass and debris and took no action of abating property at 800 E Tejon as the property had been cleaned up.
A proposed executive session was on the agenda but the board voted not to go into the session.
