Bunco for Blessings
Bunco for Blessings was held, August 1, at 7 p.m., at the Center of Hope at 102 North Main Street. The local ladies reportedly raised $200 for Rotary Club of Bristow’s Back-to-School program. Ladies Bunco Night is open to the public, and women may play for $5. Their next Bunco for Blessings game night will be held the evening of September 5, at the same time and place.
Touch-a-Truck
Bristow’s 4th Annual Touch-a-Truck event was held last Saturday, August 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot and surrounding area of the First Free Will Baptist Church just west of Walmart. A menagerie of vehicles and vendors awaited excited children. Favorite vehicles included the Paw Patrol semi, the Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters, the medical helicopter, and hot air balloon; however, the hot air balloon had left the event by 9:30 a.m. to the dismay of many children and adults in attendance. Favorite vendors included Bret Fadely’s Sinclair dinosaur, the face painting and animal balloon vendors, and the inflatables on the westernmost end of the lot. Several hundred people attended, and a few hundred kiddos received free school supplies.
Western Heritage Days
Western Heritage Days celebration is slated for Saturday, August 17, beginning with a parade down Main Street at 9 a.m. Throughout the day, visitors can also enjoy local sales, carriage rides, vendors, food trucks, entertainment and live music, contests and games, turtle races, and more. The festivities conclude that evening with the rodeo, which kicks off at 8 p.m.
Local Schools
Throughout the month of August, local schools will be open for meet-and-greet opportunities prior to the first days of instruction beginning. Several preschools operate within the community as well as a couple of private schools, and the public school system.
Candlelight Vigil
Friday, August 2, a candlelight vigil was held near the steps at the depot in honor of Cal, the homeless, wheelchair bound veteran, who sadly succumbed to the extreme heat last week. Cal sometimes attended Cornerstone Church, frequented the toy museum and local businesses, and visited with passersby to the delight of his many new friends. The community gathered in remembrance of his life and friendly nature. He will be missed by many.
Car Wash Fundraiser
Last Saturday, the Bristow High School football team held a car wash fundraiser at Bristow Pirate Carwash & Storage at 135 East 3rd Avenue. Players and volunteers washed vehicles in preparation for the upcoming season and school year
