The Bristow City Council held a Special Meeting on Monday, Oct. 30. With all council members present except for one, the council listened to a presentation from Mark Kennedy as to his opinion on which railroad crossing would be the best to close. The grant that is up for the taking is a grant where one railroad crossing must be closed in order to repair three others. Kennedy, who has been doing this kind of work for over 30 years, gave the board his opinion on which railroad crossing would be the best one to close, East 2nd, East 5th, East 7th,East 8th,East 9th.He also suggested upgrades on Airport Road, 6th and 10th Streets. Mayor Wyatt asked Chief Raney if she had any data on the crossing and Raney said with the data she had, in her opinion the crossing on East 2nd gets a lot more traffic than the one on East 5th. A motion was made by Councilman Roberts and seconded by Councilman Witty that the East 5th crossing would be the one that should be closed. The motion was unanimously passed by the council.
If the council decides that the closing should be reopened at some later point, the process would be similar to the closing. Kennedy told the board that this is a Grant and Bristow is the one that chooses which ones are up for closure and if the City does not want this then they would need to look for other grants.
