Hobo Roadrunner, also known as Texas Roadrunner, age 26, a true railway hobo, made his way through Bristow Wednesday, Aug. 16, visiting the Bristow Train Depot/Museum and stopping in at the newspaper office.
Originally from Lufkin, Texas, Roadrunner, left home in November of 2014, and took his first train from Lufkin, Texas to Shreveport, Louisiana, and he says he has never looked back. He travels with his companions, three canines, Crosstie, Abby and Marmaduke. Roadrunner's friend Gringo Bandido taught him how to ride the railways, riding the Union Pacific and Texas Southeastern, just to name a couple.
Roadrunner said, “I enjoy my adventures. Its not just a fascination with trains and railways, but it is the freedom of it all. I get to experience all the things the world has to offer. This is why I love visiting railroad museums as I actually get to experience a little of each towns history,” he said. If Roadrunner happens to find a piece of history along the railway, he donates the item to the town's museum. He feels he is saving a part of that town's history. “No one ever asked me to do this, I just enjoy doing it,” he said.
When asked where he sleeps at night, Roadrunner's answer was “Anywhere.” As for food, Roadrunner says he dumpster dives almost every evening and gets more than enough to eat or drink. He has lived on the road long enough to know how to survive and enjoys every minute of his life.
