Mayor's Corner

Mayor Kris Wyatt Greetings! As you read this, it marks the 100th day since I took office. I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the remarkable events that have occurred during this time. Please note that I am not claiming credit for any of these accomplishments. In no particular order: The City of Bristow website is nearing completion of its revamp. My goal is for it to become a reliable source of up-to-date information for both local residents and those observing from afar.

The Chamber of Commerce has experienced a revival and will now be housed in The House Unique, also known as the purple house, located on Route 66.They are eager to unite, invigorate, and inspire the community towards economic growth, both locally and through future industries that will find a home here.

A newly established Economic Development Committee is working actively to attract new industries to Bristow. With our skilled workforce, available land, and transportation potential, we have the ability to entice national businesses.

Since day one, we have been diligently working with professional consultants to streamline processes within City Hall and the Public Works Department. Regular meetings with department heads and employees have allowed us to identify inefficiencies and enhance working conditions.

The Fire Department has successfully completed its Hazard Mitigation Plan, which has been evaluated and accepted by OEM, FEMA, and INCOG. The City Council has adopted this plan, opening doors to Federal and State funding. Additionally, Bristow will receive a new brush truck in October, and the fire station has undergone a makeover with fresh paint and new doors.

We have been granted $51,660 from the REAP grant to replace 21 fire hydrants within the city.

The Police Department has increased their drug suppression activity with measurable results, stepped up efforts to combat drunk driving, continued community involvement efforts, and has received two grants to refurbish the training center. Flock cameras are coming. Monday morning meetings with administration keeps communication and transparency between us.

Applications for Federal Highway Administration grants, totaling nearly $3 million, have been submitted for sidewalk projects. The recipients will likely be announced in late fall.

Through the Department of Commerce, we have applied for Infrastructure for Industry funds to develop an industrial park. The estimated amount is between $35 million, and we anticipate an announcement in the near future.

CREOKS Health Services has acquired property to establish a behavioral health facility serving Bristow and the surrounding area. They aim to open their doors by early 2024.

A non-profit organization has expressed strong interest in constructing a community center at the Washington School site. This facility would cater to youth and include indoor (basketball) and outdoor (T-ball, soccer) practice areas, a playground, and a splash pad. Negotiations are underway, and I will provide updates as progress is made.

The Holiday Inn project is progressing smoothly, and I will keep you informed of any developments.

Construction of the pool remains on schedule, with an expected completion date of next April.

As of now, the hospital project is facing a delay as the State of Oklahoma continues its inspection of Phase One. However, we are confident that the end is in sight, and we will soon have a fully operational facility.

We have witnessed the opening of new businesses, the revitalization of older buildings, and the construction of new homes. While I cannot disclose specific details at this time, I assure you that there are many more exciting ventures on the horizon. Bristow, here we grow!
