Many goals can be reached and accomplishments met in a community when people pull together and work as a team.This Saturday will be one of those times for the Town of Depew.They will be giving out free school supplies to help out students, and not just Depew students, but students of all ages from any school district. They will also be gathering funds for their fire department, plus they are giving the kids a big day of enjoyment before they get back to school. It will start out with free school supplies at the 'Back To School Bash/Grand Opening' at D's Creations and then end with the Ladies Auxiliary hosting a 'Movie on Main' to raise money for the fire department. With the heat wave being what it has been, we all realize the issues for the fire department. The funds raised will help cover cost of water, gatorade, and sometimes even meals for the Depew Fire Dept; and in some cases for assisting fire departments.
The events will start out with the 'Back to School Bash/Grand Opening' at 6 p.m. at D's Creations on Main. There will be free school supplies, free hot dogs, chips and drinks for the duration of the event, door prizes, turtle races, rock painting, balloon animal artist, snowcones, cotton candy, custom hand stamped jewelry, and shopping. Vendors will be there to explain their products and what they have to offer. Then they will wind down and cool off with the 'Movie on Main' event.This will be indoor so everyone can cool off and relax after all the activities. This is open to all. All ages and all school districts are welcome.
Mayor Dionna Marker said, “I am hoping this helps some of the families that are struggling to get their school supply list gathered. I also hopes that this is an event that they keep each year.” As for the Movie on Main, this is the third time holding this event and Mayor Marker believes this will be the best yet. Event timeline: Starts at 6 p.m. at 419 W. Main St., Depew . Door prizes at 6:30 p.m. with 7:00 p.m. the second door prize, 7:30 - Turtle Races (make sure you mark your turtle to identify yours), then at 8 p.m. the third door prize, meanwhile there will be kids games and free hotdogs/chips/drinks and school supplies.
