Last week, I introduced an animal rescue who travels with dozens to more than 100 dogs from Texas on a 2800 mile 75 hour trek to Canada, where the dogs have been preadopted. Bristow's Bark Park and residents aid their efforts by providing a needed area of respite for animals and caretakers along the way. The dedicated rescues eagerly commit themselves to caring for stray, abandoned, abused, neglected, and injured pets.
Although rescuing, caring for, and finding safe, appropriate, adoptive homes for the animals are the group's primary objectives, they also work to educate the public about the importance of responsible pet ownership to reduce and prevent animals from requiring rescue and rehoming. Securing funding and resources is also paramount to fulfilling their mission.
Connie Weant's CMC2 Dog Rescue attends to all dogs in need within their means, according to volunteer Julie Smith. They work tirelessly to prevent needless euthanasia of animals and have a long-term goal of ending euthanasia through public education, foster, and adoption efforts. The rescue vociferously encourages owners to assist and neuter pets, regularly interact with pets, offer fresh food and water daily, and tend to all veterinary needs, including preventatives such as maintaining vaccinations to timely treating injuries and illness.
Julie described the importance and fulfillment of animal rescue in seeing pets initially filled with anxiety, apprehension, and hopelessness regain life, trust, and love with proper care as they transition to their loving forever homes. She also said, 'Rescuing is a passion, a way of life for us. ... We strive to tame the scared, vet the injured, train the disobedient. ... Our job is to save as many dogs as possible, and get them fully vetted and adopted into loving homes.'
Like other animal rescues, their success at fulfilling their goals rests with the numerous people involved: owners, volunteers, veterinarians, fundraisers, fosters, donors, educators, couriers, adoptive families, and more. CMC2 Dog Rescue along with their rescue travel partners, Texadian Cowdog Rescue and BMAR, want to express their heartfelt appreciation to everyone in Bristow for their interest and support along the way to Canada every six weeks. They invite Bristowans to follow them on social media and donate to rescue efforts whether with their organizations or with local rescues such as Bristow Barnyard. Most importantly, they implore all to spay and neuter pets.
