Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company (OG&E) recently donated electric fans to seniors and families with low income to help Creek County residents stay safe and cool during the hot summer months.
On Thursday, June 8, OG&E volunteers handed out 100 fans in the Creek County area to those who may be at higher risk for heat-related injuries and illnesses.
OG&E partnered with local nonprofit organizations that serve these vulnerable residents, including Caring Community Friends of Sapulpa, Bristow Social Services, Care and Share Food Bank of Depew and the Senior Nutrition Center of Oilton.
“We all know that summers in Creek County can get hot, but unfortunately, not every member of our community is able to safely handle the heat,” said Dr.
Camille Teale, Executive Director at Caring Community Friends. “We’re grateful for OG&E and its generous donations of fans that provide critical relief to our community’s most vulnerable citizens.”
This June, the electric company will donate a total of 1,700 electric fans to customers across its service area, providing thousands of customers with much-needed relief from the high temperatures and humidity.
“This summer, we want our customers to stay safe and cool in the heat,” said Tammy Taylor, community affairs manager at OG&E. “We know we’re only as strong as the communities we serve. We appreciate the opportunity to help those without adequate stay safe and comfortable. It’s an important initiative that really changes lives, and all of us at OG&E are honored to play a part in it.”
Since the program’s inception in 2006, including this year’s donations, the electric company has provided more than 19,000 fans totaling nearly $304,000 to thousands of residents in the service area.
The fan donation program is just one of the ways OG&E helps customers find ways to stay safe and comfortable during the hottest months of the year. Each summer, OG&E partners with local libraries, senior centers, churches and other locations throughout its service area to open Cool Zones, which provide heatwary residents a place to go and cool down during the hottest times of the day. A list of Cool Zones is available at oge.com/coolzones.
