A fatality collision occurred on March 8, 2023, eastbound on the I-44, nine miles west of Bristow. A 2020 Chevy Silverado, driven by Adan Quinones-Acosta, age 47, from Aurora Illinois, along with four passengers, Alex Acosta, age 19, Isaac Acosta, age 20, Michael Acosta, age 23 and Johon Marquez- Acosta, all of Aurora, Illinois collided with a 2019 Kenworth Tractor Trailer, driven by 37 year old Bradley Ford of Yukon, Oklahoma.
Both vehicles were traveling eastbound on I-44 when, Acosta, driving the Silverado, fell asleep causing the vehicle to depart the roadway striking a barrier wall.The vehicle then re-entered the roadway narrowly striking the front of the tractor trailer rig, departed the roadway to the right and overturned, coming to rest on the drivers side. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and three of the passengers were unharmed but the fourth passenger, Michael Acosta was taken by Creek County EMS to St. John's Medical Center, in Tulsa admitted in good condition. Adan Acosta, the driver of the vehcile, was also taken by Creek County EMS to St. John's but was pronounced deceased by the medical staff.
Another accident occurred on Wednesday, 8,2023 where three teenagers, two 15 year old boys and one 17 year old girl, lost their lives. Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports state that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on 161st West Ave. near Sahoma Lake in Sapulpa, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, slamming into a tree. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital listed in critical condition. OHP report stated that the passengers were ejected from the vehicle on impact but all three of the teenagers were pronounced dead. The teenagers were identified as 17 year old Lacy Krause, 15 year old Jimmy “Jay” Rhotenberry III and 15 year old Nayson Brockman. The driver's name has not been released as of press time.
