The Montfort & Allie B. Jones Bristow Public Library recently hosted it’s First Annual Crown’s Tea Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Bristow Public Library.
The high tea included a lecture and discussion about the late educator, philanthropist, and humanitarian Mary Jane McLeod Bethune and was led by guest speaker Cynthia Laws Calloway. The event was catered by Roski Toasty Custom Charcuterie Grazing from Oklahoma City. It also included a stunning formal tea serving and was filmed by a videography crew.
The esteemed event has previously been held at the Guthrie Public Library; hosting the event in Bristow this year was made possible by a grant from the OK Humanities Council. The OK Humanities grant has enabled OKC-based Thick Descriptions to bring their Crown’s Tea programming to small and rural communities across the state of Oklahoma. This was Thick Description’s first time to bring the Crown’s Tea to a small and rural community. Bristow was the first pilot site, and the event was much appreciated by all who attended.
“The Bristow Public Library is honored to hold spaces for events like this,” said the library’s director Heather Hutto. “Too often rural and small communities have to miss out on amazing opportunities, specifically ones that break conventional notions and promote lifelong learning.
We are grateful to Thick Descriptions, the OK Humanities Council, Roski Toasty, and the crews working behind the scenes to make this beautiful event happen in Bristow,” she said.
Thick Descriptions is an OKC-based organization that provides educational resources to help communities better understand themselves and each other.
