Pirates win 15-14 over Verdigris

The unranked Bristow Pirates walked away with a 15-14 victory over Class 3A No. 1 Verdigris on Friday night. The Pirates walked away with one of the biggest wins in Bristow's history. It was quite amazing and a great feeling for the players, who according to Coach Jones, were super pumped to win that game.

When asked what the team did to prepare for this game, Jones said, “We urge the team to play to the standards set forth by the tradition of Bristow football. Our standard is perfection but we will settle for excellence. Every detail matters, nothing goes unchecked or unnoticed.”

Jones said the offense team struggled but the defensive team played really good and it was tough sledding. “Hats off to them for holding us in check,” said Jones.

With the game against Jay coming up, Jones said the team is definitely good enough to take another win. He would have to make better calls, the offensive would need to make better blocks and the team would have to be more physical on the perimeter from their backs. The team has seen glimpses of greatness so now that is the expectation. “The team will have to keep paying attention to the details and prepare mentally every play in practice. We need to really focus on practicing deliberately instead of going through the motions,” said Jones.
