Computers for home use were primitive in the mid 1970’s. “Pong” anyone? The Commodore 64 of the 1980s was a basic word processor. Then in the 1990’s the internet dramatically changed the world, and a new type of crime became a worldwide problem – computer hacking!
From NASA to the local middle school, even children were hacking into private, sensitive, secret computer information. You may have been a victim.
Computers are great devices, but thieves can use them to steal your valuable information.
In John 10, Jesus talks about hackers. He describes them as evil people, plotting and planning and twisting His message of hope, forgiveness, love, and salvation.
Hackers mislead people down the wrong path in life. They cause people to suffer loss and ruin, and then send them into a maze of trying to restore their good name. Has that ever happened to you?
Let’s consider what Jesus is saying here. “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber” John 10:1.
It’s one thing to steal a valuable item from someone as the thief does when no one is looking, but the robber is more confrontational. He takes an item of great value by getting in the face of a person, possibly with a weapon, and uses threats, making another submit to him by force.
Jesus then says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
“I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” John 10:7-10.
Do you see the contrast here? Just like the computer hacker, those who attempt to swindle others come “only to steal and kill and destroy.”
People are like computers in that an outside influence can’t take away all that is good in their life if they closely follow Jesus. The hacker, however, tries to climb over the fence to take away the sheep.
Jesus further says, ““I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” John 10:11. Jesus is the all-powerful antihack, antivirus, and surge protector of His sheep.
Are you willing to “enter” through Jesus? Those who do will be saved. Jesus died to save you!
