Who Wouldn’t?

A young man was leery about it. A well-dressed older gentleman handed him a check. “My wealth will soon mean nothing to me. Here is a check, written against my personal bank account in the amount of one and one half a million dollars. Just sign the check.”

He scrutinized the check. The amount was $1.5 million. He entered the bank. “There must be some catch. No, I won’t sign! He left the bank. The elderly man was gone. He tore up the check and stuffed it into a nearby trash can.

He threw away his chance at becoming a millionaire. Why? All he needed to do was sign the check. Who wouldn’t?

The young man acted foolishly. Yet, this happens all the time concerning something more valuable.

When someone hears the saving message of the love of Jesus, they have only two choices: They can reject the value of His saving blood or run to Jesus for forgiveness.

Luke tells us in Acts 4:12 that only in Jesus can you be freed from sin and rescued from eternity in hell. There’s no heaven for anyone who trashes Jesus!

Many run to Jesus. Who wouldn’t?

There is still hope for the lost soul, unlike that young man in the story above. He threw away his chance. Paul writes in Romans 3:23 that we’re all in the same boat: “Everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s glory.“

Jesus wants to step into our boat. There’s a wonderful promise in Romans 6:23:

“The pay you get for sinning is death, but God’s gift is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”

It is foolish to turn your back on Jesus. Are you too sinful? Read 1 Timothy 1:15 - “… Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.” Paul, the writer of those words, was! He gave himself to Jesus. Who wouldn’t?
