Otis “Buddy” Lee Towry

Otis “Buddy” Lee Towry was born to Otis and Joyce Towry on May 6, 1950 in Ardmore. He departed this life Oct. 16, 2021, at the age of 71 years.

Buddy became a part of the Bristow community when his parents moved their family to Bristow in 1954. He grew up attending Bristow Public Schools graduating in 1968. Buddy went on to attend college at Northeastern State University earning a bachelor’s degree in music in 1972 and then a master’s degree in music in 1974. He began his teaching career as a Band Director in Claremore. He taught two years before moving on to Collinsville for three years; Buddy returned home to Bristow where his time as a band director spanned 10 years. After leaving Bristow Schools, Buddy built a business selling metal art for the next twenty years. He then began working for EZ Go Convenience Stores as well as PDQ for the last 15 years. Buddy enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, and planting flowers and trees. He always fed the birds including the crows and geese and occasionally a deer. He loved all animals especially his many cats that he loved through the years.

Buddy is survived by one sister, Beverly Miller and husband Chuck; one nephew, Brian Heard and wife Amanda; two nieces, Sarah Miller and Laura Vantrease and husband Jon; three great nephews, Logan and Austin Heard and Nolan Vantrease; one great niece, Chloe Vantrease; four cousins, FA “Butch” Shellenberger, Cathy Shellenberger, Scott Nelson and Steve Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nancy Heard and cousin Mary sue Nelson. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Trinity Baptist Church with Reverend John Tidwell officiating.
