Regional Champions

A lone run against Lady Pirates throughout tournament

On Wednesday and Thursday the Lady Pirates, after winning their District, played host to the Region 5 Tournament which featured four teams that participated in the 2020 State Tournament. The Lady Pirates came out on top, defeating Broken Bow 3-0 and Skiatook 10-0 on Wednesday, and then closing the curtain on Skiatook on Thursday with a 3-1 win in the championship.

There was no stopping Kinzie Williams and her bat on Wednesday, going 2 for 3 against Broken Bow and then 3 for 4 against Skiatook in the nightcap. Abby Morgan was also solid at the plate, reaching base six out of her seven plate appearances with two RBI. In game two against rival Skiatook, Albaney Pritchard's three RBI's in the top of the first inning on a blast to left-center plunged the Pirates into the lead and added a fourth in the fourth inning for good measure to help secure the win. In the circle McKenna Ingram threw a nohitter against Broken Bow and a 1-hitter against Skiatook, striking out 25.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs eliminated Hilldale to put themselves in the championship with Bristow. Pritchard was clutch on Thursday as well, hitting a 2-run single in the bottom of the first inning to get the Pirates the early lead. In the bottom of the second the Lady Pirates added a run when Graycie Gramm scored on an error by the left fielder after singling to centerfield. The Bulldogs tried to come back in the sixth after a double and then a score on a passed ball, but Ingram and the Pirate defense was solid and didn't allow another run. The lone run would be the only one scored against the Pirates throughout the tournament. Ingram pitched all twenty innings and struck out 32. She gave up five hits total and maintained a 0.000 ERA. She ended the tournament with a curveball that froze Skiatook's last chance at a rally.

The tournament will start Thursday, OCt, 14, 2021, at Hall of Fame stadium in Oklahoma City.
