Learn Anything New Lately?

Remember the excitement of your first day back to school following summer break? Old friendships rekindled, meeting new friends, telling your teachers all about a special family vacation, all the fun you had swimming, and feeling a bit older when you returned.

Then your English teacher asks about books you’ve read. “Books? It was summer vacation!” What about learning some geography or history? Nope. “Vacation from school!” you say. Is this how life really is? How can a brain be expanded?

Parents, limit your child’s entertainment for thirty minutes each day so they can read. When was the last time you went to a library? There are numerous books that tell young people about historic heroes, such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, “Lucky Lindy,” Harriet Tubman, and George Washington Carver. Learning about the American Revolution doesn’t require a trip to Boston or Philadelphia. Just open a book. Learn anything new lately?

Are you gaining any Bible knowledge between Sundays? Is it easier for you to skip being with the church or to miss watching a sports game? Be honest, now!

What about doing some learn ing that has eternal value? When was the last time you read about God’s love for you? As a child what did you learn about heaven? Are you as sure today as you were then that you are going to heaven? What have you changed about your life that will please God?

Have you heard that Jesus died for you and that He suffered so your sins can be forgiven? There is no other means by which your sins can be taken away (Acts 4:12). When your life ends, you must be saved by Jesus if you are to go to heaven.

Ephesians 5:2 says that we need to “walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God.” Christ’s love is for those for whom He gave Himself. He gave Himself for you; therefore He loves you! He desires to take you to heaven. Learn anything new lately?

2 Corinthians 5:1 teaches that “we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” Your body contains God’s Holy Spirit. Someday you won’t have your body anymore. Only then can you be taken into God’s “building…not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
