In accordance with its goals of enhancing family and community involvement, the Drumright Chamber of Commerce will present a free movie night this Saturday, August 14th, beginning at dusk at Whitlock Park in partnership with Cimarron Cinema, Wheeler Nutrition, and Shape Your Future, a program of TSET.
As one of its primary goals, the Drumright Chamber plans to find ways of enhancing community and family involvement, realizing that a community with unmet needs cannot support its businesses and local businesses lacking customers cannot support their community. Chamber President Jolese Maples stated that one way of meeting their goal is by offering local business sponsored family-friendly, community activities like a free movie night benefitting a local family-friendly organization: the Drumright Athletic Association (DAA).
The DAA is an autonomous organization, offering and managing tee-ball, baseball, softball, flag football, and cheer. The organization serves children ages five through eleven or from kindergarten through fifth grade, providing valuable teambuilding experience, physical activity, and entertainment for children and their families. For the free movie night, all concessions and sales item proceeds will benefit the DAA, who will be running the concessions and maintain sport sign-up sheets.
Since the movie night benefits the DAA, sponsors made the fun viewing choice of 1993 movie “The Sandlot” about a group of boys who connect, in part, through their love of baseball. Wheeler Nutrition and the Drumright Chamber sponsored the movie, covering the licensing fees and allowing the movie to be played for the community.
Sponsored vendor Cimarron Cinema will be providing the technology involved in showing the movie. Owner and operator Johnathan Tinnie will provide the mobile screen, tech system, and tech support for the movie viewing. Funding for services provided by Cimarron Cinema is provided by sponsor Shape Your Future, a program of TSET.
As for the Drumright Chamber, President Maples stated that they plan to hold another free outdoor movie night in about a month for the benefit of the community. More details will be disclosed soon.
