As new people move into town, many often possess little knowledge of the area, local resources, businesses, and activities. A welcome committee fills that void and introduces newcomers to their new community. In the last 30 years, many such welcome committees have come and gone. In their absence, newcomers must slowly learn as they go or do without. In an effort to foster connections and help build the community by welcoming people and families moving into the area, a group of locals are forming a Bristow Welcome Committee.
The Bristow Welcome Committee has already initiated the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) organization with plans to fundraise and maintain a welcoming presence in the community for many years to come. The group plans to help connect people with local resources, products, and services as well as to establish personal connections between new and current residents of all ages, interests, and abilities. The committee will assemble welcome baskets filled with in formational resource packets as well as products and discounted service vouchers donated by local businesses. The tentative date the committee plans to begin gifting the baskets is August 1st. To form connections with and build the community, the committee encourages businesses to participate.
Presently, the Bristow Welcome Committee meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 6:30 in the evening at Bristow VFW Post 3656. Beginning in August, the committee will meet once per month moving forward. The exact recurring time and day of those meetings has not yet been set, but tentative plans are for meetings to occur every second Tuesday evening of the month at 6:30 at the same location. Anyone can join or volunteer. No one is excluded from participation.
If interested in joining, volunteering, or donating, the Bristow Welcome Committee’s next meeting is set for Tuesday, June 22nd. For more information, email the committee at BristowWelcomeCommittee@gmail.com.
