Ever heard of Vintage Room or attended a Sunday dinner there? A clean, nicely decorated place with which you might want to familiarize yourself, Vintage Room serves delicious dinners and as a venue of Lazy D Events, LLC.
In December 2020, Lazy D Event owners Matt and Shannon McDonald opened Vintage Room near Slick on property previously owned and dedicated for community use by Shannon’s grandfather, Hugh Dawson. Erected on that land, the building now home to Vintage Room was originally built to house the Slick Senior Citizens’ and Community Center as a place of recreation and socialization for Slick area residents. Many years later and having come full circle, the property returned to the ownership and care of Shannon and her husband, who spent much time renovating the building.
During the renovation, all surfaces underwent meticulous cleanings with many being repaired or replaced. Currently, Vintage Room boasts an all-new commercial kitchen, appliances, fixtures, and refurbished flooring with something new added each month. In fact, Shannon disclosed plans to add a bar along the west side soon, creating 30 additional seats to the existing capacity of around 50 with COVID-19 social distancing protocols in place. As for why they chose an event venue, Shannon said it offers another opportunity to serve the needs of their community while affording them some fun connection time to enjoy their lives and the community as well. Serving community is far from a new endeavor for the McDonalds.
Previously, the couple served together in the Oklahoma Army National Guard, where they met and fell in love before marrying soon thereafter. Originally from Broken Arrow, Matt continues to serve in the Army National Guard as a pilot after having already completed 28 years of service and multiple tours across several continents. As for Shannon, she moved to the area from Sand Springs. She served as a flight medic for 20 years across three tours, two of them combat. Additionally, she served as a Broken Arrow police officer for 20 years, retiring from the force but choosing to operate Vintage Room, run her own catering business, and operate Lazy D Events and their pecan business with her husband and family. Vintage Room serves as but one of her passions.
As a venue, Vintage Room can be booked for meetings, parties, dances, and more. Common rentals include birthday, graduation, and anniversary parties, wedding and baby showers and receptions, reunions, and organizational and business meetings. Anyone needing a beautiful, clean space to gather will enjoy Vintage Room. Even those not in the market for a venue can enjoy Vintage Room by dining in for Sunday dinner.
Three months after opening as a venue, Vintage Room began serving Sunday dinners. Located across the highway from the Faith Baptist Church in Slick, Vintage Room opens for dinners every other Sunday for lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday dinners cost $10, including tea, but desserts are separate with prices varying. Rather than offering a full menu, Sunday dinners typically include one main dish and one dessert. Additional special treats for sale include small bags of their own candied pecans.
Shannon creates plenty of tasty treats in addition to the candied pecans and Sunday dinners she serves at Vintage Room. Actually, she also runs her own catering business, saying she will cater “nearly anything.” Because she enjoys cooking and providing delicious food, she hopes to grow her catering business.
Fortunately for those not in need of catering, the next Sunday dinner will be this Sunday, August 1st, and dinner will consist of stacked enchiladas, refried beans, chips, and fresh, homemade salsa. Dessert will likely be chocolate cake. Be sure to visit, supporting these two local veterans, and try their tasty offerings.
