Community service proves of paramount importance to the work of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary. Auxiliary members tirelessly dedicate themselves in service of veterans and the very communities in which they live.
Unbeknownst to many unfamiliar with the organization, members serve their communities in a multitude of ways. Familiar causes include promoting patriotism among residents, supporting veterans and military centric organizations, addressing legislative needs for veterans and vulnerable populations, and building support for active-duty military personnel. Additional causes include contributing to healthier, safer, and cleaner communities, encouraging volunteerism, conducting child and patient advocacy, committing acts of gratitude and compassion, performing research and identifying resources for governmental entities, families, veterans, and others, and cooperating with other local organizations for the betterment of the community.
Members of Bristow’s VFW Post 3656 Auxiliary periodically receive individual awards for their service. In the last quarter, VFW Auxiliary President Letha Caudle awarded several members for their service contributions. Some members have chosen to remain anonymous in hopes their work remains about the service and populations served. In total, members have volunteered more than 5,000 hours in service to veterans and the Bristow community.
Members receiving awards include Maria Harris, who served at least 300 hours, Ruth Jaytanie, who served a minimum of 400 hours, Norma Carman, who served more than 500 hours. Virginia Ray and Letha Caudle each served greater than 1,000 hours each. Those members choosing to remain anonymous served more than 2,000 hours, including one member who served more than 1,000 hours.
