Today, Aug. 10, marks the first day of the 23-24 school year for the Bristow area children. Back to school safety isn’t just for kids and their parents; it affects everyone in the community. Most children are excited about the first day of school and it is our responsibility to insure that the area children are safe when they return to school. Be aware when you are out driving around in the mornings and afternoons and obey all regulations pertaining to schools.
• Always stop for school busses that are loading or unloading children. The biggest risk regarding school buses is children approaching and exiting the bus. Never pass a bus from behind. If it's stopped, they could be loading or unloading children or pedestrians.
• Be aware of school crossing guards and obey their signals.
• Never pass other vehicles while driving in a school zone.
• Most area schools have designated drop off and pick-up zones. (example of Edison Elementary’s pictured left) This is the best and safest way to make sure your child makes a safe trip to and from school each day. We all need to do our part to insure the the area kids have a safe and happy school year. A list of all school supplies needed are listed on the Bristow Public Schools website.
