On March 9, 2022, Dr. Joyce and Ray Kinslow presented the leader lesson on pests and insects to Bristow’s OHCE members. They described various problems with bag worms, grasshoppers, June bugs, powdery mildew and root rot, which is caused by poor drainage and over-watering. Responses to these problems included both commercial and “homemade” methods, i.e., Ortho products, baking soda mixture, etc. Ray also showed pictures of composts and described what should and should not be compiled within the compost. Roll call was plant related theme. Norma Carman recalled having an old Lilac Bush and Joyce has Petunias that her sister, Lois, had given her; that her sister’s mother-in-law had given Lois, over fifty years ago.
The Devotion chair, Ray Kinslow, read Psalm 23, as an honor to Sheryl Cortez and Norma Carman, whose husbands passed away this past month. President Carolyn showed the fabric dish cover that was made at “Make and Take.” Joyce shared the picture of Mitch Fisher, John 3:16 officers, and Kinslows, taken when they presented the organization with the check honoring Bristol Fisher. The monthly household hint was discussion of the many uses of WD40.
Other business included voting to have “Essential Workers” as their club county fair display theme. Several persons stated what they would be making for the display. Five members were present, plus one guest, Judy Williams, and last year’s member, Mitch Fisher. Both Mitch and Judy paid their dues for this coming year.
